Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH)
Your BAH will be used in one of two ways. You can either rent on base or you can live off base. If you live off base, you can either rent or buy. Click Here for current BAH rates.

Fairchild Air Force Base is located near Spokane, Washington and was originally established in 1942 as the Spokane Air Depot. Its main host unit is the 92nd Air Refueling Wing which is responsible for refueling passenger and cargo medical evacuation units in flight. Temporary lodging facilities are available at Fairchild Air Force Base at the North Star Inn. If arriving in the summer months, call ahead for reservations to ensure availability. Check at the housing office for a referral list of hotels/motels which fall within eh Temporary Lodging Allowance. The office will also have a list of apartment rentals, houses for sale or rent, and any pet policies potential residential properties may have. Some on-post accommodations include utilities. The housing office will be able to provide personnel with their basic housing allowance if they choose to live off-post. Homes for rent or sale are available in the surrounding communities of Spokane, Cheney, and Medical Lake.
Fairchild Air Force Base has two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school all located in the Medical Lake School District. The school district provides transportation to students at no cost and offers before and after school care. Home schooling is also an option if a state required form is filled out. The parent must have completed at least 45 hours of college credit in order to be qualified to teach children at home. Many private institutions are also available including community colleges and universities. Fairchild’s other units include the 509th Weapons Squadron, the 368th Recruiting Squadron, and the base has become the main hub of the Air Force tanker’s fleet on the west coast. At one time, more than half of the nuclear-armed warheads in the United States resided at Fairchild. Today, the former missile sites still exist and are used by local farmers for storage.
